Dexter boys and PCHS girls finish third in Orono

ORONO – The boys from Dexter Regional High School scored 45 points to place third among a field of eight teams during a Penobscot Valley Conference track meet at Orono High School on May 20.

Tiger senior Gage Sinclair had the day’s top throw in the discus. His throw measuring 117 feet, 9 inches gave him first place by 15 inches. Sinclair also was fourth in the shot put at 35-04.25.

Senior Cameron Allen came in second in the triple jump at 38-06.25, and classmate Avery Gagnon was right behind in third place at 37-06.75. Junior Trevor Speed was sixth in the event at 32-05.25.

Allen and Gagnon were also fifth and sixth in the long jump with respective jumps of 17-06.25 and 17-00.50. In the 100 Gagnon finished fifth in a time of 12.66 seconds and Allen was sixth in 12.67 seconds. Gagnon also came in sixth in the javelin at 112-05.

Junior David Race finished fourth in the 800 in a time of 2:37.10. 

Senior Elijah Warner was fifth in the 200 in 26.49 seconds and he was sixth in the 110 hurdles at 20.73 seconds. Senor Miles Gadwah placed fifth in the 110 hurdles in a time of 19.74 seconds.

The boys from Greenville High School picked up eight points to place sixth. 

Sophomore Parker Gallagher finished third in the 400 with his time of 58.80 seconds, and he came in sixth in the 200 at exactly 27 seconds. Laker sophomore Gabriel Baldwin was sixth in the 400 at 1:28.31.

Six points placed Piscataquis Community High School seventh in the standings.

Sophomore Karson Tibbetts came in fifth in the 400 at 1:08.93. Senior Alex Sheed was fifth in both the 1,600 and 3,200 at 6:10.48 and 14:04.50.

Host Orono won the boys’ meet with 245 points, followed by Bucksport High School in second with 166. After Dexter was fourth-place Washburn District High School with 28 points and then 12 for Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln. Deer Isle-Stonington High School came in eighth with four points.

The PCHS girls scored 38.50 points to end the day third among a field of eight schools.

Junior Samantha Goodwin earned top honors in the javelin. Her throw of 89-01 gave her first place by more than 2.5 feet.

Goodwin also came in third in the 400 at 1:10.11 and she ran the third leg of the third-place 4×100 relay. Freshman Sarah Silva, junior Kendall Kimball, Goodwin, and junior Molly Sipple combined for a time of 57.29 seconds.

Sipple and Kimball were second and third in the javelin with respective throws measuring 76-08 and 76-05. Sipple also was sixth in the 400 with her time of 1:23.24.

Freshman Kaelyn Bussell and Orono junior Alex Hutchinson tied for fifth in the high jump at 4-00 each.

The Dexter girls placed fifth with 10 points.

Juniors Lauryn Brunner and Christian Warner were third and fourth in the high jump at 4-02 each – the difference coming on the number of jump attempts.

Greenville came in eighth with one point. Senior Eva Patrick placed sixth in the 200 in 33.33 seconds.

The Bucksport girls ended the day atop the standings with 224 points. Host Orono was second with 198.50. Between PCHS and Dexter was Mattanawcook Academy in fourth place with 22 points. Deer-Isle Stonington came in sixth with eight points and Washburn was seventh with five points.
