GET INTO THE WATER! — Swimmers head into the water at the start of the PRYMCA Sprint Triathlon. This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, starting with the swim at the public beach on Sebec Lake in Dover-Foxcroft.

The event starts at 9 a.m. with a half mile swim in Sebec Lake. After the swim, comes a 12 mile bike ride over the rolling hills between the lake and Dover-Foxcroft. The race concludes with a 5K run on roads and trails around Dover-Foxcroft. After the race there will be a celebration and awards ceremony at the PRYMCA as well as music and food for all participants and spectators.
The annual event has been growing every year and this year the Y hopes to break all previous attendance records, “This year we hope to see at least 75 and maybe upwards of 100 people participating.” said Deb Boyd, the Y’s executive director, “The sprint triathlon is a great format for people who may be new to triathlons and endurance events. For experienced racers, it’s a chance to improve their times and qualify for other races and events locally and nationally. We also have many competitors who only want to do one of the sections of the race and we are happy to help match people up to form their teams.”
Registration is open right up till the morning of the event, but Boyd suggests people get registered as soon as possible. People can register at the Y or by visiting www.prymca.org/events and following the links for the Sprint Triathlon.
“We’re thrilled to see this race grow over the years and bring people from around the state to Piscataquis County,” said Boyd, “The race would not be possible without the support of some great sponsors including Hardwood Products, Haverlock, Estey & Curran LLC and Will’s Shop ‘n Save.”
Anyone wanting more information about the triathlon can call the Y at 564-7111 or stop in at 48 Park Street in Dover-Foxcroft. The PRYMCA is a cause-driven organization that is committed to the community and dedicated to promoting healthy spirit, mind, and body for all, through programs and services grounded in Christian heritage and the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
