Ukraine – A wake-up call
To the Editor;
Because of the serious situation in our world, the news media is inundated with news coming out of Ukraine. Did anyone see a Ukrainian archbishop on the news recently or the Ukrainian doctors trying to save the life of an 8-year-old girl gunned down by Russian artillery. The archbishop was appealing to the world for help and most of all to turn back to God. The doctor was yelling out against a dictator who values nothing but power and might. The Ukrainian people are extremely brave, religious patriots who love freedom – a freedom they did not have when they were a part of the Soviet Union.
At our church recently, we have discussed the need to encourage people to come back to church and how we do this. First of all, we don’t wait for conditions like the Ukrainian people are experiencing in order to make our peace with God and to realize that we are a very fortunate people who have the freedom to attend the church of our choice, and that we don’t have to do this in fear.
I thank God every day that my family and I live in a country that allows us to express our different political views and ideas. How would I handle having my country taken over by a Socialist/Communist dictatorship and forcing their beliefs on me. We can’t think that this will never happen to us. It can happen to us. So I say – wake-up before it is too late. Come back to church and do your part by showing God that we appreciate having the opportunity to worship him in a free democratic country.
