Foxcroft boys indoor track finishes fourth at conference championship

ORONO – The Foxcroft Academy boys scored 60 points to finish fourth among a field of eight teams at the 2022 Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Small School championship at the New Balance Field House at the University of Maine on Feb. 11.

Pony senior Jacob Reed came in second in two events and third in another. Reed had the day’s second-best performance in the high jump as he cleared the bar a height of 5 feet, 8 inches. He also came in second in the triple jump at a distance of 36-10.50. In the long jump Reed was third at 18-04.75.

In the 55-meter finals Foxcroft juniors Alvaro Diaz and Eion McLoskey were second and third with respective times of 7.23 and 7.25 seconds. The two were third and fourth in the 200 at 26.00 and 26.08 seconds respectively.

Diaz, juniors Kyle Jankunas and Douglas Rowe, and McCloskey placed third in the 4×200 relay with a combined time of 1:44.92.

Also scoring points for Foxcroft was sophomore Zachary Peirce and freshman Runner Jarrett. Peirce came in fourth in the 400 at 1:02.71 and Jarrett was fifth in the 2-mile in a time of 11:20.17.

Jankunas added a fifth-place finish in the long jump at a distance of 16-10.

For Dexter, senior Miles Gadwah came in fourth in the 55-meter hurdles. Gadwah’s time was 10.24 seconds.

Bucksport High School won the Small School title with 150 points, followed by 81 points for Sumner Memorial High School of East Sullivan. The rest of the field was Orono High School 62 points, Foxcroft 60, Central High School of Corinth 29, George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 20, the Bangor Christian School 15, and Dexter 4.

In the girls’ meet, Foxcroft scored five points to finish sixth among a field of seven programs.

The Pony 4×200 relay team placed fourth in a time of 2:11.65. The squad was comprised of seniors Rebekah Demers and Grace Carlson, sophomore Paige Weidman, and senior Kasey Howell.

Howell also came in sixth in the 55-meter finals with a time of 8.46 seconds.

Bucksport won the girls’ championship with 156 points. Central followed with 92 points and Orono was third at 85. The remaining teams were George Stevens 31, Sumner 29, Foxcroft 5, and Bangor Christian 6.
