Center Theatre receives Golden Apple Award from Maine Education Association

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On May 22, at the Maine Education Association Representative Assembly, the Center Theatre was given a Golden Apple Award. According to the MEA website, the annual award is given “To recognize an individual or group that has demonstrated a strong commitment to the local school(s) and/or to the children of a community.”

The award, on display at the Center Theatre, reads “In recognition of their passion and dedication serving the students of both their school and community.”

The Center Theatre’s Executive Director Patrick Myers said the Theatre was honored to receive the award from a group dedicated to the children of Maine, “The Center Theatre has a long history of working with our schools and providing programming for area children. To be recognized by the MEA is a great honor.”

The Center Theatre has several programs for kids this summer. The largest is their Center Theatre Summer Drama Camp. According to Myers, the Drama Camp is the Theatre’s longest running program. “Jayne Lello started the drama camp before the Center Theatre renovations were finished,” he said. “This summer we’re celebrating the Camp’s 23rd year by starting a new program in Dexter to complement the two sessions in Dover and one in Monson. We’ve also started a program for teens that will culminate in a travelling performance that we will be taking to communities in the region later this summer.”
