GFWC/Miosac Club sponsors annual high school art contest

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — Barb Austin welcomed approximately 30 people to the seventh annual Local High School Art Show, March 23 at the Congregational Church. She then introduced GFWC/Maine President Anne Cress who thanked the students for entering the contest and praised their works. The arts are  an important part of GFWC.

BEST IN ART SHOW — Earning top honors at the GFWC/Miosac Club’s seventh annual Local High School Art Show on March 23 at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church were three Foxcroft Academy students. From left are first place Sangunin Lee, third place Evelyn Henderson and second place Yunji Kim.

    Elaine Larson presented certificates of participation to all students who entered the contest. Larson then spoke of the dedication of the art teachers to be involved in this contest. The Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis, Three Rivers Kiwanis and Moosehead Kiwanis donated monies to help the art teachers purchase art supplies. Larson presented  monies and a bud vase to teachers  Jane Blay of Foxcroft Academy, Margo Busque of Piscataquis Community High School, Sasha Bladen of Penquis Valley High School and Mallery Cudlitz of Greenville High School. The winner will go to the District 3 Art Show in April and then those winners will go on to GFWC national competition in Washington in June
    Larson them introduced Suzette East, judge of the show for many years. East praised the artists and talked about all the entries, she was truly impressed with the art works. Her telling of each entry is very valuable to the students. East then presented the winners with their prizes 
    The first-place winner was Sangunin Lee of Foxcroft Academy, second place was Yunji Kim of Foxcroft Academy and third place and Peoples’ Choice went to Evelyn Henderson of Foxcroft Academy. Honorable mention was Katie Perry of Greenville.
    Other entries were from Foxcroft: Academy:  Emily Leonhardt and Garun Oh; Piscataquis: Chelsa Nichols, Micheala Pratt, Katelyn Bates, Tiia Flick and Carolyn Mumbley; Greenville: Kaleb Redimaker, Nick Muhr and Jasmine Senatus;  and Penquis Valley; Zoe Berry, Jessie Casall and Christian Diaz.
    The GFWC/Miosac Club thanks all artists who participated and others that attended the show. Club members provided refreshments.
