‘12 Years a Slave’ coming to Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre announced that “12 Years a Slave”, the winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture will be showing for three days starting on March 30 and ending on April 1. The film, rated R and running 134 minutes, is based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom.

In the pre-Civil War U.S., Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity.
The film has gained critical acclaim as well as box office success and Angela Bonacasa, executive director of the Center Theatre, is proud to be showing it in Dover-Foxcroft. “Our schedule is fairly busy this time of year and we were afraid we wouldn’t be able to find a spot for it with other movies and events going on. Even though we can only show it for three days, we hope many people get a chance to see this important movie.”
The movie will be showing at the Center Theatre on Sunday March 30, March 31 and April 1 at 7 p.m. For more information visit www.CenterTheatre.org or call 564-8943.
