Pony track concludes regular season
ORONO — A week before the Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Championship on Saturday, the Foxcroft Academy indoor track and field team took part in a conference regular season finale meet Feb. 2 at the University of Maine.
The Pony boys finished third out of seven schools with a score of 70 points, 50 of which were earned by senior Donald Boyer and junior Ryan Wang as the two had a pair of individual first-place finishes and both were a part of a winning relay. Boyer had the meet’s fastest time in the 55 hurdles at 8.03 seconds and he won the high jump at a height of 6 feet, 2 inches.
Wang finished in first place in both the 55 and 200, at 6.78 and 24 seconds respectively. He ran the first leg of the 4×220 relay squad, followed by Boyer and then seniors Jacob LaBree and Jasper Thompson, that won in a time of 1:38.57.
Placing second for Foxcroft was senior Cody Levensalor in the shot put at 44-04.75 and the 4×880 relay. The team was made up of sophomores Noah Simpson and Julian Zepeda and freshmen James Smith and Abraham Simpson and the four finished with a time of 9:55.65.
Thompson came in fifth in the 200 at 25.19 seconds, LaBree finished sixth in the 55 at 7.15 seconds and sophomore Peter Boyer was sixth in the shot put at a distance of 41 feet.
The Pony girls tallied 37 points to finish fifth out of seven teams. Sophomore Fern Morrison placed second in the 800 at 2:36.89, and junior Mia Smith had the meet’s second best performance in the pole vault at a height of seven feet.
Morrison also finished third in the 400 and fourth in the 55 at 1:04.07 and 8.18 seconds respectively. Smith placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 28-11.75.
The 4×200 relay, made up of senior Angie Chen, juniors Liza Grigoryeva and Kate Sukhanova and senior Lydia Zepeda, ended up in third place with a time of 2:13.06. Grigoryeva added a sixth-place finish in the mile at 6:36.62.
