Collins has helped McConnell put partisan goals ahead of local governments

Maine local governments are still waiting for financial aid assistance from the federal government. Maine state and local budgets will be decreased by many thousands of dollars in the coming months due to decreases in revenue sharing, excise tax revenues, loss of property taxes and the overall economic impact of COVID-19.

The CARES Act did not provide funding for local governments serving fewer than 500,000 people, which meant not a single local government in Maine was eligible for relief funding. We need funding now in order to continue providing essential services, infrastructure maintenance and repairs, and general local operations. U.S. Sen. Susan Collins has supported and gone along with Mitch McConnell’s efforts to thwart these needed funds being made available to Maine towns in order to advance purely partisan goals.

This is a time to move beyond partisan politics. Collins claims she is “independent” and “bipartisan,” but her actions clearly say otherwise. Fence-sitting and grandstanding her  “concerns” as to the President’s rhetoric and behaviors are not convincing as she continues to receive funds from and vote in line with his partisan agenda.

Please consider supporting Sara Gideon for U.S. Senate in November to gain us a voice in Washington of someone who will serve the needs of all Maine’s residents.
