Maine DOE to announce the 2020 Maine County Teachers of the Year on Facebook Live Thursday

Sixteen Maine teachers will be announced and honored as part of the Maine Department of Education’s annual Maine County Teachers of the Year awards from 2-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. The teachers were nominated by a member of their school community, and through a rigorous application process were selected by a panel of teachers, principals and business community members.

Maine County Teachers of the Year serve as ambassadors for teachers, students, and quality education state-wide. The Maine County Teachers of the Year are available to make presentations to local and regional organizations. Throughout the summer, they will continue to participate in an intensive State Teacher of the Year selection process.

Photo courtesy of Senate Republican OfficeCOUNTY TEACHER OF THE YEAR — Art teacher Bobbi Tardif of SeDoMoCha Middle School in Dover-Foxcroft was announced as the 2019 Piscataquis County Teacher of the Year during a May 9 ceremony in Augusta, and now she is in the running for the 2020 Maine Teacher of the Year honors. Tardif was presented with a legislative sentiment recognizing the achievement before the ceremony by Sen. Paul Davis, R-Sangerville.

The virtual announcement will be streamed live on the Maine Department of Education Facebook page. The pictures and a recording of the presentation will also be available after the announcement.

In 2019 SeDoMoCha School art teacher Bobbi Tardif was named Teacher of the Year in Piscataquis County. The previous two Piscataquis County Teachers of the Year both went on to earn the top honor in the state, the 16 county-level winners narrowed down to three finalists with the Maine Teacher of the Year chosen from this trio. SeDoMoCha music teacher Kaitlin Young is the 2018 Maine Teacher of the Year and Piscataquis Community High School English instructor Joseph Hennessey is the 2019 Maine Teacher of the Year.
