Contreni announces bid for House District 119 seat  

GREENVILLE — Democratic candidate Margarita Contreni announced her candidacy for the Maine House of Representatives for District 119. The district includes the unorganized territories of Northeast and Northwest Piscataquis; Barnard, Blanchard and Elliottsville townships; and the towns of Abbot, Beaver Cove, Bowerbank, Greenville, Greenville Junction, Guilford, Monson, Parkman, Sangerville, Sebec, Shirley and Willimantic.

“It’s time for a change,” she says. “Effective leadership counts. Here in our district, economic development, including the related issues of healthcare, infrastructure and education, is job No. 1 for us all. It is a huge challenge that has been made worse by the COVID-19 emergency. We also must address the environmental pandemic of climate change, especially since our beautiful forests, lakes, and streams are the heart and soul of our region and the lifeblood of our local economy. At the same time, we must be sure to preserve the historical and cultural character of our region.” 

Asked what qualities she would bring to the role of state representative for District 119, Contreni says, “I’m a team player and a solutions-driven person. It is not enough simply to serve. I believe in the hardworking men and women of our district. They as well as retirees and our children deserve representation that helps get things done. I am committed to that effort.” 

Contreni currently serves as vice president of the Moosehead Lake Economic Development Corporation. Her professional career includes work as the assistant vice president for corporate and foundation relations at Purdue University and as a public school teacher. She and her husband John live in Greenville and have six children and 10 grandchildren.
