‘Classic Movie Nights’ at Center Theater begin Jan. 15
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre announces the first installment of “Classic Movie Night,” available exclusively to Center Theatre Members.
“It just seems right to show classic movies here at the Center Theatre since our theatre was originally created as a home for movies.” said Executive Director Angela Bonacasa. “To view classics on the big screen is a really fun, unique opportunity. Going to the movies is a regular event for many of us, and I think we forget how important these films were to the public when they were originally produced. In the years before television, going to the movies was a big event for the entire family. And I don’t think that most of us can grasp the excitement that moviegoers must have experienced seeing their first movie in Technicolor.”
Classic movies will be shown one Wednesday a month, starting at 7 p.m. The showings are free, but available only to Center Theatre members. Individual memberships are $35 and family memberships are $50, both of which come with free movie tickets, free popcorn and discounts to certain theatre events.
“If you haven’t had a chance to become a member before you come see our classic movie, that’s not a problem,” says Bonacasa, “because you can join when you arrive at the theatre. We’ll get you set up with a membership, and you’ll be able to attend another eleven classic movies for free in addition to receiving all the other benefits of membership.” Classic Movie Nights will include a short discussion about the film and its significance in cinema history.
The first scheduled movie night is Jan. 15 with a showing of Errol Flynn’s “The Adventures of Robin Hood.” Additional movie dates are Feb. 5, March 5 and April 2 with movies to be announced.
