Sled dog musher struck by snowmobile

BROWNVILLE JUNCTION — The Maine Warden Service is seeking information about hit and run accident where a snowmobiler didn’t stop after striking a sled dog musher.

Shortly before noon on Saturday, Jan. 25 a snowmobile collided with a sled dog musher just north of Brownville Junction. The musher was taking part in a sled dog race that shared part of its route with snowmobile trail ITS 110.

The snowmobile was traveling towards the sled dog team on the trail, and the snowmobile operator couldn’t keep control of his snowmobile and sideswiped the dog sled and musher. The sled dog musher was knocked off the dog sled and the snowmobiler did not stop and continued to travel north toward Katahdin Ironworks. The sled dog musher refused medical treatment at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation by the Maine Warden Service. Anyone with information about the crash or who may know the identity of the snowmobiler is asked to call the Department of Public Safety at 207-973-3700.
