Dexter boys run at state X-C championship

CUMBERLAND — The Dexter Regional High School boys cross country took part in the 2019 Class C championship on Nov. 2 at the Twin Brook Recreation Area. The Tigers joined teams also placing in the top half at the regional meets the weekend before, and finished 14th of 15 squads with a score of 348 points.

Dexter was ahead of the 381 points for 15th place Madawaska High School and trailed the 334 scored by the 13th place Maine School of Science and Mathematics of Limestone.

Freshman Payson Rienhardt led Dexter by finishing 20th among a field of 114 runners. Rienhardt covered the 5K course in a time of 18 minutes, 29.07 seconds.

Next to reach the finish was junior Michael Gadwah, who placed 81st at 20:39.24. Sophomore Nickolas Gallighan was 92nd at 21:28.08 and sophomore Miles Gadwah came in 101st at 22:29.81. senior Augutus Irwin rounded out the scoring five by finishing 113th at 25:56.31.

Freshman David Rice placed 114th at 26:20.87 and freshman Christian Gallant was 117th at 28:34.37.

Senior Will Roberts of the Boothbay Region/Wiscasset High School cooperative team won the Class C championship in a time of 17:10.72, besting second place by about 5.5 seconds.

The Maine Coast Waldorf School of Freeport won the team title for the second year in a row with a score of 50 points. Orono High School came in second with 57 points and George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill finished third with 99 points.
