Genealogy group meets Oct.6 at Mayo

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Peter M. Smith, president of the Maine Genealogical Society, will be the featured speaker at the Sunday, Oct. 6 meeting of the Wassebec Genealogical Society, to be held at 2 p.m. in the Piscataquis Room at Mayo Regional Hospital.

Smith has authored dozens of entries for the Maine Families in 1790 series and is a member of the Mayflower Society and the Kennebec and Corinna historical societies. He also heads the Central Maine DNA Interest Group in Winslow. His family roots are mainly in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties and he’s been doing genealogy since he was 14.

Smith’s passion for DNA began in 2016 when DNA testing revealed his maternal grandfather was someone other than family and vital records recorded. He then began a journey to find his true ancestors and new relatives and will share his story of discovery at the meeting.

The meeting is open to all. For more information call 564-3576.
