Attempted robbery reported Monday at Dexter Rite Aid

    DEXTER — The Dexter Police Department is investigating an attempted robbery late Monday afternoon at the local Rite Aid pharmacy on Spring Street.
    According to Officer Allen Emerson, a male subject in his late 20s or early 30s, came into the store around 5:30 p.m. and passed a note to the pharmacist, claiming that he had a weapon and demanded narcotics.

    But Emerson said that the suspect ran away empty handed, after the pharmacist read the note out loud so that people in the store could hear him. He reportedly left on foot.
    A Maine State Police canine unit and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department are also assisting in the investigation.
    The suspect was described as approximately 6-foot-4 weighing approximately 170 to 180 pounds with brown hair and a goatee and was wearing glasses. A surveillance photo is posted on the Dexter Police Department’s Facebook page.
    Pharmacy robberies in Maine are down considerably this year after a record 58 reports in 2012. Unofficially, there have been 10 incidents so this year, not including attempted robberies where nothing was taken.
