Smith brothers place in top three at state track championship

BREWER — Brothers Jackson and Landon Smith of the Foxcroft Youth Track program combined for a trio of top three performances 14 & Under USATF-Maine Association State Championship on Aug. 10 at the Brewer Community School.

Landon Smith, a rising sixth-grader at SeDoMoCha Middle School, came in second in the age 11-12 100 meters. Smith sprinted a time of 14.25 seconds for the second-best performance among a field of 20, made up of the top five finishers at four regional qualifiers held the previous week.

Smith also finished third in the long jump at exactly 13 feet. The distance and his 100-meter time were both personal bests.

His second- and third-place finishes resulted in 14 points for Foxcroft Youth Track in the 11-12 division, good for 14th place among a field of 25 teams.

Jackson Smith, who will be starting grade 8 at SeDoMoCha in several weeks, placed second in the age 13-14 high jump. Smith cleared the bar at a height of 5-02 for the second best performance among 20 event entrants at the state meet.

The elder Smith also placed ninth in the 13-14 100 meters in a time of 12.93 seconds.

His eight points in the high jump put Foxcroft Youth Track in a tie for 20th place with the Hampden Track Club in the age 13-14 division, among a field of 29 squads.
