High school one-act plays at Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre will be hosting Foxcroft Academy and Piscataquis Regional High School for two nights as students present their one-act plays before going to the regional one-act play competition. The plays will be performed on Friday, March 1 and Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m., admission will be by donation.

Foxcroft Academy will be performing “A Mistake” that was written by the cast and crew. PCHS will be performing the play “Locked In” which was written by Jim and Jane Jeffries. Both plays are going on to the regional one-act competition the following weekend and the performances at the Center Theatre are great practice for the cast and crew.

“At the competition there are very strict time restrictions on the plays as well as on the set-up and break-down,” said Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director. “Being able to practice the plays in front of a live audience helps the actors and crew get ready for their competition so they can shine.”

The one-act plays will be the last events at the Theatre before the start the work replacing carpets, refinishing the auditorium floor, and installing new (to them) seats. The Theatre will be closed for three weeks while the work is going on. They will have two showings of the “Titanic Movie Event’ on Saturday, March 16. At that point, the auditorium will be empty and the Theatre will set up tables and chairs so people can watch “Titanic” on the sloping floor. Attendees will also have the opportunity to order pizza from Pat’s Pizza that will be delivered directly to their table. Showings of “Titanic” will be at 2 and 7 p.m. The Theatre will also host a housewarming party on Thursday the 21st from 5 to 7 p.m. to show off the renovations.

The Center Theatre is a non-profit performing arts venue with a mission of making arts, culture, education, and entertainment accessible to our rural communities.
