FIRST TASTE OF HOME COOKING — Foxcroft junior Jenna Anderson cuts through the lane for a lay-up, with senior Makenzie Beaudry looking on, during the Ponies’ 2018-19 home opener vs. MDI on Dec. 12. The visiting Trojans won 52-36.

Trailing 24-17 at the half, Foxcroft (the team fell to 0-2) used an 11-5 run in the third quarter to make the contest 29-28. The Ponies used a balanced scoring approach for the stretch as junior Jenna Anderson hit a pair of shots from the floor, senior Makenzie Beaudry scored on a jumper, sophomore Ainsley Ade sank a free throw, and a 3-pointer by freshman Meghan Spooner cut the Pony deficit to one at 29-28 as MDI called a full timeout at the 2:00-mark before the in-bounds to follow Spooner’s shot.

The stoppage in play worked for the Trojans (2-0) as the team picked up six points in the ensuing two minutes vs. just one for Foxcroft on a foul shot by senior Cailin Seavey. MDI senior Julia Watras accounted for all half dozen points on two field goals and a pair of free throws. She ended up scoring nine of her team’s 11 points in the third quarter as part of a game-high 21-point night or nearly double the next highest total of 11 for her classmate Maddy Candage.

The Ponies would get to within six of the opposition early in the fourth quarter behind two points from the paint by Beaudry, she led her team with 10 points on five field goals, to make the game 37-31. The Trojans would have a 17-7 scoring advantage across the fourth quarter to close out the night at 52-36.
