Genealogy meeting Sunday afternoon at Mayo

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Wassabec Genealogy Chapter members are pleased to have as a guest speaker Peter M. Smith of the Maine Genealogical Society and host of the Central Maine DNA Interest Group in Winslow. Smith will be at the next meeting at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4 at the Mayo Regional Hospital conference rooms.

Smith has submitted dozens of entries for the Maine Families of 1790 series and is a member of the Mayflower Society, and the Kennebec and Corinna historical societies. His roots are mainly in Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. He has been interested in genealogy since he was 14. Smith’s passion for DNA began in 2016 when DNA testing revealed his maternal grandfather was someone other than family history and vital records recorded. He then began a journey to find his ancestors and new relatives and to share his story of discovery with others.

Smith’s program will be an account of the DNA test, the process of resolving the mystery of the stranger in his genetic heritage and locating not only new family members, but his true ancestral line. The meeting is open to the public and if you have DNA questions this is certainly something to attend. For questions contact the Bennetts at 876-3073.
