JD Foundation to present suicide awareness and prevention workshops

ABBOT — The JD Foundation will present a series of suicide awareness and prevention workshops in Abbot and Brewer during the next few months.

The first will be at the foundation’s 107 Main Road location in Abbot on Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 5, Oct. 17 and Nov. 7. Participants can learn warning signs, risk factors and protective factors. They can talk about how to speak to someone struggling with thoughts of suicide and learn what resources are available in the area. These 90-minute workshops could save a life and are compliant with LD 609.

Another series will be in Brewer at Machias Savings Bank from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12 and Wednesday, Oct. 10.

Teachers, professionals, lay people — this is for all! As it is LD609 compliant, this is required for anyone working in schools throughout Maine. Learn warning signs, risk factors and protective factors. Learn the resources in the area and how to talk to someone who is contemplating suicide. Knowledge is power and it takes a village to make a difference.

JD Foundation officials hope potential attendees consider registering at www.thejdfoundation.org.

The JD Foundation will host a huge yard sale at 107 Main Road in Abbot from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, Saturday, Sept. 1 and Sunday, Sept. 2. The sale will include furniture, antiques, household items, brand new and used clothing and more. For more information, please call 343-1732.
