Rihtnesberg and Smith pace Ponies at Large School track meet

BREWER — Sophomore javelin thrower Daniel Rihtnesberg and junior jumper Hyatt Smith would combine to place in the top four in four events for Foxcroft Academy at the 2018 Penobscot Valley Conference Large School Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Friday, May 25 at the Brewer Community School.

The two accounted for all 24 Pony points, placing Foxcroft eighth in a field of 10 schools. The Ponies were ahead of the 22 points for Presque Isle High School and 21 for 10th place Ellsworth High School.

In the javelin, Rihtnesberg had a top throw of 149 feet, 3 inches to finish as the event runner-up. Winning the javelin for the second year in a row was Brewer High School junior Jacob McCluskey at a distance of 156-08.

Smith would place in the top four in three field events to account for 16 of his team’s 24 points. He cleared a height of 11 feet to place third in the pole vault. Smith came in third in the triple jump at a distance of 41-07.50.

Smith was also fourth in the high jump. He cleared this bar at a height of 5-08.

In the girls’ meet, Foxcroft junior Cailin Seavey finished third in the javelin with a throw of 90-07.

Seavey accounted for her team’s six points, which placed the Ponies 10th in the standings.

Foxcroft Academy will be the site of the Class B championship meet on Saturday, June 2.
