FA’s Nelson and Ames wrestle at New England championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Foxcroft Academy wrestlers RJ Nelson and Elijah Ames both took part in the 54th annual New England wrestling championship March 2-3 at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.

Nelson, the 2018 Class B 132-pound champion, was defeated by technical fall 18-3 at the 5:52 mark of his opening match in the 132-pound division. After a bye to start the consolation competition, Nelson was edged in a 6-4 decision in the next round.

Ames, who came in second at 170 pounds at this year’s state meet, was pinned at the 5:36 mark of his first match. Ames also had a bye to start the consolation matches, in the second round he was defeated via a 10-5 decision.

Nelson and Ames accounted for 16 Foxcroft points, placing the Ponies in a five-way tie for 47th place. A total of 126 schools recorded points at the New England competition.
