Piscataquis Community Elementary School recognizes Students of the Month

GUILFORD — Month by month outstanding pupils in grades 5-8 at Piscataquis Community Elementary School are honored by being named Students of the Month. On the third Friday of the month the honorees are presented with certificates in front of their peers during the morning meeting.

During the Feb. 16 all-school assembly to start the day nine Students of the Month, who are selected by their teachers for criteria such as outstanding citizenship and academic performance, were named. The Students of the Month are Daniel Hurd and Dominic Williams, grade 5; Onyxia Williams, grade 6; Brooklyn Brasier, Katelynn White and Anna Zimmerman, grade 7; and Hannah Dow, Eric Jacobs and Elizabeth Kendall, grade 8.

The morning meeting on the third Friday of the month also includes the recognition of PCES “Upstanders,” students who have stood up for their peers and/or others over the previous few weeks.

Guidance director Jason Schriver said the February Upstanders include a student who helped a peer carry an armfull to school bus in slippery conditions, an honoree who shared their iPad, a pupil who helped clean up a mess in the cafeteria and two boys who altered staff to an incident at recess rather than getting in the midst of it themselves.

All Upstanders are presented with a personalized boomerang created by Schriver, hung on the wall in the main lobby. The boomerangs will go home with the recipients at the end of the school year.
