Rep. Higgins announces candidacy for reelection

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Rep. Norman Higgins, I-Dover-Foxcroft has announced that he will be an independent candidate for reelection in 2018. Higgins represents District 120 comprised of Atkinson, Brownville, Dover-Foxcroft, Medford, Milo, Lakeview Plantation and the Unorganized Township of Orneville. In his two terms in the legislature Higgins has served on the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee and on the Agriculture, Forestry and Conservation Committee.

Higgins is a 50-year resident of Dover-Foxcroft. He was a teacher and principal at Piscataquis Community High School and superintendent of schools in SAD 4 of Guilford for 32 years. Higgins has served as a selectman in Dover-Foxcroft and a member of the HAD 4 board of directors. He is chair of the trustees of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church and serves on the board of trustees at Foxcroft Academy.

In October 2017 Higgins announced that he would serve the remainder of his term as an independent. Higgins states, “Working together for the common good has been replaced with the inability to cooperate and an over emphasis on competition rather than collaboration. Creating new job opportunities, expanding health care and supporting education have become areas of confrontation. It is time for a change.”

“As an independent I look forward to working to bridge the divides that exist and develop an environment that focuses on the needs of the people of Piscataquis County and our state,” Higgins said.
