Duos mix it up at first summer tennis tourney

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Penquis Area Mixed Doubles Summer Tennis Tournament was played under a beautiful hot and sunny Maine day at the Burns-Johnson Tennis Complex at Foxcroft Academy. The players and fans love the new and rejuvenated facility.

MIXED DOUBLES PLAY — Taking part in the Penquis Area Mixed Doubles Summer Tennis Tournament June 29 at Foxcroft Academy’s Burns-Johnson Tennis Complex were, from left, Lynn Lubas, Jim Lubas, Minh, Roxanne Chase, Diane Lyford, Harold Chase, Ben Kittredge, Chris Hamlin, Bob Lee and Mary Lou Lee.

    The event kicked off with coffee and donuts. Players from Milo, Williamsburg, Dover-Foxcroft and North Carolina joined in a well contested event on June 29. Eighty-three  games were played over four hours. Each team played every other team.
    The team of Roxanne Chase and Minh finished first with 24 wins, Lynn and Jim Lubas finished second with 22 wins and Mary Lou and Bob Lee rounded out the medals stand with 20 wins. The contests were extremely close with a separation between first and third of only four games. Many players and fans commented on the excellent playability and esthetics of the Burns-Johnson Complex. Organizers thank everyone for their contributions to the rebuilding and enhancing the facility.
