Center Theatre presents ‘Nunsense’ in Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville

The Center Theatre will be presenting the hilarious musical comedy “Nunsense” starting on Friday, Aug. 11. The show will be performed the weekends of Aug. 11 and 18 at the Center Theatre and then, for the first time, the theatre will be bringing the show to Greenville High School for two performances on Saturday, Aug. 26.

“We’re very excited to bring the show to Greenville,” said Center Theatre Executive Director Patrick Myers. “It’s been a pleasure working with Jim Chasse and the Greenville community on the project.”

Myers said that while the Center Theatre has done smaller shows in Greenville in the past, “Nunsense” will be the first full-length musical.

“Nunsense,” written by Dan Goggin, is being directed by Derrick Buschmann with musical direction by Deb Fournier. The five-person cast includes Brigid Casey as Sister Mary Leo, Rose Kreider as Sister Mary Amnesia, Tracy Michaud Stutzman as Mother Superior Mary Regina, Amanda Ober as Sister Robert Anne, and Hannah Poland as Sister Mary Hubert. Complementing the all-star cast will be a live band led by Margery Aumann on piano; Deb Maynard on saxophone, flute, and clarinet; Dan Sharrow and Freddy Libby on percussion; and Jayne Sharrow on keyboard.

The comedy is the story of the Little Sisters of Hoboken who are holding a variety show to raise money to bury the last four of 52 nuns accidentally poisoned by Sister Julia’s tainted vichyssoise. The show includes solo performances, dance routines, and many, many laughs.

Showtimes at the Center Theatre are Friday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12 at 2 and 7 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 19 at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m with the performances at Greenville High School at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Tickets for all the performances can be purchased in advance at the Center Theatre, by calling the theatre at 564-8943 on the theatre’s website at www.CenterTheatre.org or on the Center Theatre’s Facebook page. The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts is a non-profit organization with a mission to make arts a part of life in the Maine Highlands by providing affordable entertainment, culture, and education to the community.
