Recent Dexter grad Webber part of UMaine field hockey recruiting class

ORONO – University of Maine field hockey head coach Josette Babineau is pleased to announce her 2017 incoming recruiting class. This year’s class consists of five newcomers who will be eligible to compete for the Division I Black Bears in the fall, including recent Dexter Regional High School graduate Abby Webber of Garland.

A forward, Webber spent four years competing at Dexter where she guided the Tigers to a pair of runner-up finishes in the regional championship. Individually Webber earned an All-State accolade and she was selected to the Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) First Team as a senior, after being named to the PVC Second Team each of her first three seasons. Aside from her high school competition, Webber competed for Black Bear Elite where she helped guide the team to a fourth place showing at the National Indoor Qualifiers.

“We welcome Hana Davis, Lydia Dexter, Cassandra Mascarenhas, Brooke Sulinski and Abby Webber,” Babineau said. “We are fortunate to be able to recruit in-state as well as draw players from the Canadian national program. Dexter enters our program with a lot of experience as a member of the Majestix Club. Webber and Sulinski have been working hard with the Black Bear Elite Club. Mascarenhas and Davis are both members of their clubs, provincial programs and Canadian National Team Development squad.”

“These incoming players will be a great addition to our roster,” Babineau continued. “Davis, Dexter and Mascarenhas will help us tremendously in midfield and in the backline. Both Sulinski and Webber are forwards and will help our aggressive style of play. We are excited to have them join us this fall!”

Webber will join Dexter, who played for Class A Messalonskee High School of Oakland, and Class B Old Town High School graduate Sulinski. Her future teammates Davis and Mascarenhas will both join the program from north of the border.

The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Eligibility Center.
