Magical performances of ‘Cinderella’ at Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Last weekend was the opening of “Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella” at the Center Theatre. By all accounts it is a magical performance for the whole family. Over 250 people attended the performance on opening night and according to Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive Director, they were enchanted.

“It’s a large cast of very talented kids who are giving it their all,” Myers said. “The audience was on their feet at the end of the show which is a great testimony to all the hard work that has gone into the show by the cast and crew.”

The story is one that we all know. Cinderella (played by Julia Alexander) is working under the lash of her cruel step mother (Alyssa Pearl-Ross) and step sisters (Rose Kreider, Rebeclyn Parker and Elisabeth Carlson). With the help of her fairy godmother (Hannah Poland) she meets her Prince (Johan Halvorsen) and lives happily ever after. The cast includes 30 more children from elementary through high school and is directed by Ben Layman with music direction by Kaitlyn Young and Alecia Griffin.

“The number of talented people in our small community is truly inspiring,” Myers said. “From the cast and crew to volunteers who do all our sets and costumes to the time put in by parents during the performances, it is literally thousands of hours to bring a show like this to life. We hope that people will come see one of the final two public performances on Saturday the 13th.”

Myers said the cast and crew will also be doing three performances for local schools on Friday, May 12 so area school children can also see the performance. The last two shows for the public are on Saturday, May 13 at 2 and 7 p.m.
