Simpson will be continuing basketball career at Husson

BANGOR — The Husson University women’s basketball recently added some depth to the front and back courts, receiving a commitment from Emma Alley and Abby Simpson. Simpson is a forward from Foxcroft Academy, while Alley is a guard from Stearns High School in Millinocket.

“Abby is a six-foot post player who will complement our post play well,” said Husson head coach Kissy Walker. “She is quick to react on the boards, she plays physical, hustles and can defend in the paint.”

Simpson was a three-year starter for the Ponies. She tallied 589 rebounds in her four years and led the Big East Conference in rebounding during her three years as a starter.
During her senior year, Simpson was named to Bangor Daily News’ Class B North All-Tournament Team. She finished her career with 538 points, 116 assists and 67 steals.

Husson will graduate three seniors off a 23-5 squad that captured back-to-back North Atlantic Conference championships, while recording consecutive 20-win seasons. The Eagles also won the program’s first ever NCAA tournament game by defeating DeSales 74-72.

The women will open up their 2017-18 campaign at Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. for the Williams Classic tip-off.
