Hibbard’s being sold to First Atlantic Health Care

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Jane Hibbard-Merrill, owner and president of Hibbard Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, has announced today that she has agreed to sell the Nursing Home and Main Street West to First Atlantic HealthCare (FAHC) located in South Portland, Maine.

“The sale, while difficult to contemplate after so many years here, is best for everybody in so many ways,” commented Hibbard-Merrill. “This has been a rewarding and challenging career, but at some point we all need to retire. I love my employees, who have been so loyal and caring to our many residents and I love what I do, but providing long term care is demanding in ways that require total dedication, especially now with so many government changes about to happen; it’s just time for me to pursue my other interests and do things I haven’t been able to get to as the daily operator of the business.”
The sale offers an opportunity for Hibbard’s to continue its service to Dover-Foxcroft and the surrounding communities, and do so with a new owner committed to the values and quality Hibbard’s is known for.
“I chose First Atlantic HealthCare because they have a reputation for good quality care and are known for investing in the communities where they operate. Too, they have modernized their electronic records and developed very positive quality improvement processes that I feel will benefit our residents. I liked that they respect our work and are committed to making sure our traditions continue. That is important to me, our employees, our residents and our families.”
The sale is expected to close in the late fall but could be sooner if the State of Maine CON process goes smoothly.
