Three Rivers Kiwanis reaches 25-year milestone

MILO — Three Rivers Kiwanis of Milo/Brownville is celebrating 25 years of service to the community. Three Rivers Kiwanis was first chartered on Nov. 6, 1991, and is part of a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.
During the last 25 years the club has grown in its outreach to the community through fundraising and service projects. One of the first club projects was the complete renovation of the Milo Town Hall, including stage curtains, new lighting, new sound equipment and a new piano, as well as chairs and tables. A snack shack at Harris Field was constructed by Kiwanis members as well as the large gazebo on Milo’s waterfront — now named Veterans Park.
Through fundraisers, and volunteers who give hundreds of hours annually, there has been a great impact to the community with projects past and present. Some of the annual programs are Hooked on Fishing for fourth-graders; the Bike Safety Rodeo to provide free helmets for community children; the Elementary Outing Club; KTPI children’s quilts; reading to schoolchildren as well as providing free books; Secret Santa which reaches over 200 children in the area; gazebo lighting and Christmas tree; a Veteran’s Day dinner which serves more than 200 veterans and their family members; PRYMCA swimming lessons; and most recently the Harrigan Learning Center and Museum.
Three Rivers Kiwanis sponsors and helps support the Terrific Kids elementary awards program, Girl and Boy Scouts, scholarships, Builders and Key Club in middle and high school, as well as many other programs in the community. The Kiwanis thanks community members for the ongoing support.
