Waves end the swim season with annual team awards banquet

    DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Regional YMCA Waves swim team held the annual end of season team banquet on April 23 in the fitness room at the Y on Park Street. It was potluck with Liz Mullis’ cake with swimmers in lane lines getting the most attention. After the meal, a short video reviewing the whole season was shown and Executive Director Deb Boyd said her thank yous to head coaches Dick MacDonald and Brett Almasi and coaches Jen Wellman, Sally Johnson, Blake Dyer, Cam Fadley and Deb Clukey.  Last but not least, the awards presentation to the swimmers.

    Swimmers who had placed in the top eight at the Y All Star Meet, Y State meet and at Winter Champs were awarded their medals and trophies. Almasi and Wellman and Johnson presented seasonal results certificates to each swimmer.  Special awards were given to Most Improved Swimmers, Rookie of the Year for both male and female, along with the coach’s award for a male and female swimmer.  This year’s winners were Triston Green and Amy Waugh for Most Improved, Sheryl Chase and Wyatt Rayfield for Rookies of the Year and Clay Carroll and Abby Henderson for the Coach’s Award.
    The banquet ended with Almasi thanking his assistant coaches and all the swim parents for all they do for the swimmers throughout the season.
    Almasi thanked everyone for all their hard work and for making the season such a success.  The Waves swim team will start organizing in the fall for the 2013-14 season. Anyone interested in participating should contact Chris Wesley at the Piscataquis Regional YMCA at 564-7111.
