Northern Light Mayo Hospital welcomes Sheppard to chaplaincy role

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Northern Light Mayo Hospital announces that William “Bill” Sheppard, PA-C, has been named its lead chaplain. In this role, Sheppard will provide direct spiritual care to patients and families and work with community partners to enhance the Pastoral Care Program.

In 2019 Sheppard wrote “An Ecclesiastical Pilgrimage: Testimony of an Emergency Medicine Man”, a book that explores his testimony of faith. In March 2023 he graduated from Christian Leaders Institute and became a commissioned pastor.

Sheppard has been an Emergency Department practitioner for three decades and will continue to serve in this capacity at Mayo Hospital.

“My 30 years of clinical experience as an emergency medicine provider gives me insight into the patients, families, and staff that I will be serving,” he says. “I have an understanding of their medical conditions, diagnosis, and prognosis, which I believe will help with my counseling and ministering.”

Mayo Hospital is committed to caring for the whole person and our holistic approach coordinates and accommodates the spiritual and emotional care for our patients, their families, and the hospital staff.
