SCRIBNER, Elizabeth E., 81, Dover-Foxcroft, ME, and Blairsville, GA, July 23, 2015. There will be a graveside service conducted by the military at 11 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Dover Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft.

American Flag ColorPO ElizabethScribnerOB    DOVER-FOXCROFT, ME & BLAIRSVILLE, GA — Lieutenant Colonel Elizabeth E. Scribner, U.S. Army Veteran, 79, passed away at Hospice of Chattanooga, TN, on July 23, 2015, after a short illness. She was born in Dover-Foxcroft on October 26, 1935.
    She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1954 and received her college degree from the University of Omaha, Omaha, NE. While in college, she was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, an Honorary Sociology Society.
    Colonel Scribner joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and attended basic training at Fort McClellan, AL. Later, she applied for and was accepted in Officer’s Training. She was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1961. While in the Army, Colonel Scribner attended the Women’s Army Corps Basic Officer and Career Courses, several Personnel schools, and The Command and General Staff College.
    While on active duty, she served primarily in the personnel and training fields. She was stationed in Alabama, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, Colorado, Kansas and Virginia. Her overseas assignments were in Europe and Hawaii. She retired from the active U.S. Army from the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
    Her military decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, three awards of the Good Conduct Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the General Staff Identification Badge, and the Legion of Merit.
    Colonel Scribner retired in 1975 and moved to California. Since 1979, she had resided in Santa Rosa, California, Key West, Florida and Blairsville, Georgia. She loved animals, sports and was an avid camper. She had special friends on the West Coast and the East Coast. She will be remembered for her quick wit, generosity, kindness to others and love of family and friends.
    Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, Sheldon V. and Mildred (Doore) Scribner of Dover-Foxcroft.
    Elizabeth is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Rachel and John Pingree of Dover-Foxcroft; her brother, Sheldon Scribner of Clifton Park, NY; nieces, Julie Pingree of Dexter, Margie (Pingree) Burnett of Colorado Springs, CO, and husband, Robert Burnett, who is stationed in Greenland; nephews, Michael Pingree of Portland, Stephan Scribner and family of Ballston Spa, NY, and Brian Scribner and family of Ballston Spa, NY; several great-nieces and great-nephews.
    There will be a graveside service conducted by the military at 11 a.m., Friday, August 28, 2015, at the Dover Cemetery, Dover-Foxcroft. Arrangements are by Grissom-Serenity Funeral Home in Cleveland, TN, and Lary Funeral Home in Dover-Foxcroft, ME. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity or to the Thompson Free Library, 186 E Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
