EASTERN MAINE CHAMPS

The Penquis boys’ basketball team won the Eastern Maine Class C championship on Feb. 23 with their 46-41 victory over Houlton. Penquis trailed by 11 points in the second half before employing a full-court man-to-man defense in turning the tide of the regional final.

The victory was coach Tony Hamlin’s 400th career victory. Forward Isaiah Bess scored his 1,000th career point in the team’s quarterfinal win on Feb.19 against Stearns.
